Difference in Repetition (2017)
When looking at the meaning of Self, I go back to the early stages of childhood and key dynamics like playfulness embedded in it. I find myself embracing a very personal link, having travelled to Turkey with my father at the age of 10 and shortly after going through the process of losing him. On one of the rooftops in Adana I come across handmade kites that a father made for his children before passing away just before the start of my residency.
The purpose of the kite being lead by the wind and embracing the unpredictable forces of the elements mirrors the strength of optimism that lies at the core of a shift of perception. The dancing kite seeks the overview and transforms into a messenger of broader horizons. Inspired by the movements of the kite I decide to explore some of Adana’s rooftops and film the tracing of my surroundings and personal impressions through my own body language. The physical body as such becomes the carrier of knowledge, it is narrator and medium at the same time. Developing sculpture, performance and moving image based work, my practice concerns the system of thought and how the ordinary of the everyday creates our experience of knowledge.
En Yüksek Yükseklik (2017)
Benliğin anlamına baktığımda, çocukluğumun ilk aşamalarına ve o döneme ait özel anlara geri dönüyorum. Kendimi, 10 yaşında ilk kez babamla geldiğim Türkiye tatilini düşlerken buluyorum. O tatilin ardından Almanya’ya döndükten kısa bir süre sonra babamı kaybettim ve o günden beri bu Türkiye’ye ikinci gelişim. Bu yüzden Adana’daki bu deneyimi çok özel buluyorum. Burada dolaştığım damlardan birinde bir babanın ölmeden önce çocukları için yaptığı bir kaç uçurtma buldum.
Uçurtma rüzgar tarafından yönlendirilen ve öğelerin öngörülemeyen güçlerini kucaklayan bir amaç taşımıştır benim için ve algı değişiminin merkezinde yer alan iyimserliğin gücünü yansıtır. Uçurtma danstır ve bizi temsil eden geniş ufuklardaki bir elçiye dönüşür. Uçurtmanın hareketlerinden esinlenerek Adana'nın çatılarının bazılarını keşfetmeye ve çevremizin ve kişisel izlenimlerimin izini kendi beden dilim aracılığıyla incelemeye karar verdim. Bu sayede beni bedenim bir bilgi taşıyıcısı oldu ve aynı anda hem anlatıcıya hem de dinleyiciye dönüştü. Böylece çalışmamı oluşturan heykel, performans ve video ile düşüncelerimi gündelik hayatın sıradan aktiviteleri ile bir deneyime dönüştürdüm.
